Lahore: Police have arrested a grade 19 doctor, Dr. Zulqernain Butt, in connection with a terrorism and attempted murder case after he allegedly opened fire on two school buses in the Cantonment area on Wednesday morning. One of the buses was carrying students at the time of the incident, authorities confirmed.
Dr. Butt, a senior consultant anesthetist at Services Hospital, reportedly became enraged after his car collided with one of the buses while attempting to overtake it near Waqas Market on Bedian Road. He allegedly fired multiple shots, one of which punctured the tire of an unoccupied school bus. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The suspect, known for his aggressive behavior, fled the scene after the incident. According to police, he then returned home, picked up his children, dropped them at school, and proceeded to his part-time job at a private hospital on Ferozepur Road.
A police raid at the hospital led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol, which was allegedly used in the shooting. Following his arrest, Dr. Butt was charged under anti-terrorism and attempted murder laws.
Witnesses reported that the situation escalated after the bus driver slowed down to take a U-turn, which led to the collision and the subsequent firing incident. The school administration alerted law enforcement agencies after being informed by the driver, enabling the police to apprehend the suspect within hours.
